Center for Sepsis Control and Care (CSCC)

The Center for Sepsis Control and Care is a research institution of the Jena University Hospital and the School of Medicine of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. The center is one of eight Integrated Research and Treatment Centers in Germany, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The CSCC establishes innovative structures for interdisciplinary research and fosters collaborations between basic and clinical research. New structures in academic medicine with protected time and dual affiliation for clinical researchers will help to overcome traditional barriers between medicine and life sciences. This enables novel approaches in the treatment of sepsis patients, covering all aspects ranging from risk assessment to rehabilitation.

The CSCC supports young scientists and provides a variety of opportunities for targeted pre- and postgraduate career development.

Core units facilitating high quality clinical research include a comprehensive CSCC Trials Center, which integrates a Site Management Unit and Sepsis Data Unit as well as a Biobank.

Every 3rd heartbeat someone dies of sepsis. In the developing world, sepsis accounts for 60-80% of lost lives in childhood. Those who survive, adults and children, often struggle with life. We support the goal to reduce sepsis incidence by 20% by 2020.
